Topic
A conclusion I have come to about Protestants who dialogue with Catholics, that I posted on Facebook, and which has drawn a whole lot of responses.
Introduction
If you have ever engaged in any kind of dialogue with Protestants - particularly on social media - then the conclusion below that I came to about Protestants may strike a chord with you. I posted this conclusion on my Facebook page and dadgum if it didn't set some folks off. In this issue of the newsletter, I'm just going to post my conclusion. In the next issue, I'll share with you some of the responses and dialogues that it engendered, most of which did nothing other than reinforce exactly what I said in my post.
This conclusion is based on literally thousands (probably in the neighborhood of 4000 - 5000) of conversations I have had with Protestants over the last 28 years that I've been involved in public apologetics/evangelization. Conversations that I've had in person, over the phone, on the radio, via email, on social media, and so on.
One last thing: after I give you this conclusion of mine, I'm going to put a qualifier below it, so make sure you read the qualifier as well.
Challenge/Response/Strategy
I have come to the conclusion that the arrogance and hypocrisy - and, quite often, outright stupidity - displayed by Protestants when engaging with Catholics, are merely secondary effects of what is really going on inside of them. The primary compulsion which motivates their attitude toward Catholics is...fear.
Qualifier
Lest I be accused of doing so, I am not calling any Protestants stupid. However, in their dialogues with Catholics, they quite often say some pretty stupid things. Most of the people I have dialogued with seem to be fairly intelligent people. But something happens when they start talking about the Bible and they start getting backed into theological corners for which there is no logical - or scriptural - escape. They start saying some of the most preposterous and ridiculous and illogical things imaginable. I call it getting Bible stupid. And it can afflict the smartest of people.
Also, my conclusion above does not apply to every single Protestant who dialogues with Catholics. Of the thousands I have talked to, though, I can count on one...maybe two...hands the number who my conclusion does not apply to.
Closing Comments
Again, next issue I'll give you some of the responses I received. I hope all of you have a great week! Please pray for us, we're praying for you!
