Topic

Investing in Evangelization!

Introduction

Hey folks,

I have a favor to ask.  Will you please read through the testimonials below  - which give you a little bit of an idea of the effectiveness, and reach, of our work - and, as you're reading, prayerfully consider supporting the work of evangelization and catechesis that we do here at the Bible Christian Society?

Regular readers of this newsletter know that I all I ever ask for in support - and I only ask just twice a year - is 10 cents a day.  That's it!  10 cents a day, or a mere $3.00/month, $36 per year.  If you can do more...great!  If you can't do 10 cents a day, but you can do something...great!  If you can't give anything at all...great!  I simply ask that you pray about it as you're deciding what to do.  And, while praying about it, just ask yourself: "Is what I, and these others, are learning from these newsletters, from the mp3 downloads, the YouTube videos, and all the other materials on the website worth one cup of Starbucks coffee per month, or one coke per week," or whatever your particular "vice" might be?

I hope your answer is, "Yes," because I want to get even more of the teachings of the Catholic Faith out to even more folks around the world in the coming months.  Come January, I hope to start offering all of my talks on flash drives - one flash drive, 29 talks.  I'm working on finding a reliable, and inexpensive supplier right now.  Also, I'm having a meeting the 1st week of January which will hopefully result in finally getting a podcast going or, at the very least, get started on the regular posting of short apologetics videos all over social media.

And, I'm going to start offering some tri-fold pamphlets through the website - pamphlets on Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, The Roman (Catholic) Road to Salvation, and more, that you can share with friends and family, leave in restaurants, in airports, or wherever you might go.  Also working on a new book, tentatively titled, "Case Studies in Apologetics".

But, the project that I hope you will really be open to supporting, is what started off as my "Catechism Project," but has morphed into something even bigger.  A few months ago, I mailed a Catechism of the Catholic Church - along with a nice letter - to all the non-Catholic pastors in Leeds, AL.  Leeds is a suburb of Birmingham and is where my parish is located.  That mailing has already borne some fruit (which I'll mention another time).

However, it doesn't end there. Sometime in January, I will be following up the Catechism mailings with a mailing of my "Roman (Catholic) Road to Salvation" pamphlet to every household and business in the 35094 zip code (the zip code that Leeds is in).  That's close to 7500 homes and businesses that will be receiving this tract.  So, the pastors in the area will have already received a Catechism of the Catholic Church in the mail, now the members of those churches (as well as a lot of other folks in the 35094 zip code) will be receiving Catholic tracts in the mail.  I'm hoping it will spur a whole bunch of conversations and questions in those churches and households, and between Protestants and Catholics.

And it won't stop there. I've already purchased the Catechisms to mail out to all the non-Catholic pastors in Adamsville and Pleasant Grove, AL - two more Birmingham suburbs.  The goal is to eventually reach all the non-Catholic pastors in the Birmingham area, and then the entire Diocese of Birmingham, with a Catechsim and every household and business in first Birmingham, and then the diocese, with a "Roman (Catholic) Road to Salvation" tract. "Go and make disciples..."

And who knows where it could go from there?!  No one in the country is doing anything like this.  So, will you help us out with your support?  We need your prayer support as well as your financial support.  I know all of you can give your prayer support, and I'm counting on that, but I'm also hoping that a decent percentage of you will be willing to help out with at least a dollar or two to help us reach thousands...tens of thousands...of households with the truths of the Catholic Faith through these mailings, in addition to the hundreds of thousands we reach around the world each year through our newsletters, talks, and other materials.

So, again, please read the testimonials below from those who have already been helped by the Bible Christian Society, and ponder how many more we can reach in the coming year with your help...particularly if we can sustain and grow the projects and initiatives mentioned above.

Challenge/Response/Strategy

Good morning John,

I want to take a moment to thank you for all you do to help us properly form our conscience, and in a special way, I want to thank you for your recent newsletter “Apologetics for the Masses #492 - Catholic Voting Principles”

As a Deacon, I am always looking for good analogies/material that I can use in my homilies. When I was given the opportunity to preach on the Sunday before our elections, I was able to use some of your material provided in that newsletter to help our parishioners form their conscience in a way that fits with their beliefs.

Please know that you are in my prayers and thank you again for all you do in service to others.

In Christ’s Love...

I know you are a busy guy and may never get to this but I just wanted to send you a quick feedback. I have read Blue Collar Apologetics and found it very enlightening and just wanted to share a super quick anecdote regarding how EASY your method is to apply.  I was recently listening to Trent Horn on The Counsel of Trent (Episode 969). He was speaking with Dr. Leonardo di Chirico, a protestant apologist who founded a protestant church in Rome. In discussing Mary, Trent gave a great and concise treatise on Mary and the Catholic Church.

And now, this is what I wanted to share with you: In responding to Trent, Dr. Chirico's argument was INSTANTLY refutable using your techniques. I was simply shocked at how easy it was. This man has a doctorate and many degrees. I have none of those things, yet with your techniques his arguments are stopped in their tracks right out of the gate. Dr. Chirico said: "I agree on Mary being the mother of God as it is something that belongs to the dogmatic pronouncements that are biblically grounded and that is why they are dogmatic. Not because they were pronounced by a counsel or a church institution but because they are biblical..." AND here I paused the podcast and said out loud:

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?  Where in the bible does it say that dogma must be found in sacred scripture?  Where in the bible does it say church counsels have no weight in declaring dogma?  I realize, I wasn't speaking to him directly, and I certainly would not be going out and challenging heavy hitters in the protestant world with my little training, however, it was very encouraging to see how your techniques can be easily applied to any situation. I'm sure Dr. Chirico would have some long winded answer to my questions had I had the opportunity to ask them, but I am convinced they would not have been convincing. Because, working from the bible alone, as he clearly seems to be doing, he cannot back up any of these statements he is making. Like you said, "It is OUR book!"

Thank you John.

Never have I heard this concept [unconditional forgiveness] so well explained as so many of my Catholic friends think about it the wrong way. You gave me an answer I've been searching for for a long time. I will be making a donation

Hello Mr. Martignoni,

I hope you are doing well! I have another question for you! So, my friend and I had another discussion today:We started out talking about Mary and I explained to her Mary’s sinlessness and such. Then the topic changed to praying to saints. At this point, I pulled up our old emails [between she and I] because I didn’t have my book with me and I didn’t know we would have a discussion. I read to her scriptures that proved that saints aren’t “resting” and I explained to her why we know it’s ok to pray to them. Then, it suddenly shifted to purgatory [the doctrinal dance] which (to be honest I was getting a bit upset because she was being stubborn) and I tried to explain it but I really had to leave so I basically said explained at we die with sin and can’t go to Heaven with sin so we need purgatory. But she kept arguing because of Jesus’ death, our sins go away with a snap of a finger. To which I said that she makes no sense and that Jesus’ death allowed purgatory to exist and that purgatory is not a separate thing. But she kept bringing up the point that through Jesus took our sins on Himself and that’s how we are saved. I couldn’t argue with that, so I agreed, but I tried to explain the Catholic teaching but she was being stubborn and I got annoyed. I know the whole purpose of this discussion is to plant a seed of the truth and let God do the rest, but it was getting hard to remember that when she was being so stubborn.

My question is: how do I explain purgatory in a way that makes sense? And how do I stay calm in an argument?

God bless and thank you so much! You are such a blessing and I’m so glad you share such amazing truths with everyone!

I am a lapsed Catholic, well on my way back to the church.  Your work is invaluable to me.

Just driving in the car listening to “One Church”, for about the 20th time!  One of my favorite talks of all even though they are all so great!  I never get tired of them. And whenever I’m talking to some Faith Alone Protestant, I always issue your Catholic Challenge from your Sola Fide talk. For some reason, after they send me Eph 2:8-9, John 3:16, Rom 3:28, etc, and then I point out that the word “Alone” is not there, then give them James 2:14-26, with special emphasis on verse 24, they never seem to want to write me back, or when I point out the other part that they now need to become Catholic!  And when someone points out to me the “proper” interpretation of some passage and how the Catholic Church is wrong, I’m constantly using : “According to your, fallible, nonauthoritative, Nonbinding on anyone, opinion and misinterpretation of the Bible the Catholic Church gave to the world”.

I just felt like you needed to be reminded today how many people you educate and bring to the truth and with little helpers like me!

By the way, one of my fellow RCIA graduates also read your book and found it very helpful for discussions with her Protestant family.  We talked about chapter one over some coffee after Mass yesterday. We are both former Protestants.

Thank you for your ministry and helping equip Catholic believers!

Cradle Catholic here who "sort of understood" that we follow the Church teaching through our Pope and Magisterium, but didn't think through that the New Testament is a partial record of Church history and teachings from Jesus and the Apostles [until I read your newsletter].

I've been blessed by your emails many times and continue to support your ministry.  Now, I have a better understanding of another factor in why Protestants struggle... they left the "fullness of Truth" when they departed the Catholic Church.

Peace,
Jim

I highly appreciate your excellent work. I really like the way you go about with Protestants. A friend of mine...made a statement that the Lord's Prayer is not Biblical!  His reasoning:

Christ's death on the cross paid all past, present & future debt. Asking God for forgiveness again and again doesn't make sense - its redundant!   He said, "we can thank God", instead, but not ask forgiveness again & again.

How should I respond? Kindly, help me to answer him.

Many Thanks,

WOWEEEEE, HOLY CANNOLI!

The responses to the “Roman Road” are amazing, so many are not aware of this, like ME. I think I heard of Roman Road, but never such an important dialogue between Christians. I’m having a heavy debate with a non denominational, born again, Bible believer, rapture believer ..u name it...I wish you were on the other end while I’m trying to explain. I’m not as well schooled in scripture and theological facts.  But I’m sure getting there!

Thank you so much for this latest email. To be Catholic is to be loved and to give love.

I love your two minute apologetics. I am practicing it on the YouTubers who are protestant. I clicked on one of their pastors who claim Scripture alone and made some comments refuting it. They fired back with how Mary had sinned and used that passage from Romans saying that all have sinned.

Keep up the good work and I quote all the time from this website. It is fantastic!

I want to thank you for the technique that you recently taught me about finding "official" Church interpretations of scriptural passages by looking up the passages in the Catechism. I have used the technique many times already and find it simple and easy to implement. Thank you so, so much for your helpfulness!

Thank you for taking the time to read these testimonials.  Catholics seeking answers.  Catholics being affirmed in their faith.  Catholics learning more about their faith.  Catholics learning how to get out there and evangelize.  Fallen-away Catholics coming back to the Faith.  Protestants coming into the Faith.  So, again, please prayerfully consider whether or not the work we do is worthy of your support.  If you believe it is, and would like to make a donation, please see below.
